  Is Watchtower meant to be an actual shelter from reality

  i've been having mixed feelings about the gb whether or not their intentions are good or not.

  the fact they have a protocol of moral lying through "theocratic warfare" very much turned me off from having anything to do with the org.

  Further to the excellent comments above I would add that the majority of witnesses put off their plans in this world for their hope of living in the new one.

  Time and again you'll hear something like 'in the new world I will learn the guitar' - why not now? `I will learn how to paint' - what's stopping you from doing it now? 'In the new world I will go travelling and seeing different places' - why are you putting it off, go for it now!

  I remember one circuit overseer in his talk saying that the world tells you to buy now, pay later; whereas Jehovah asks his people to pay now (time, energy, commitment) and he will reward them later. It was always to be done in the future.

  It was only after leaving that I realised there was nothing stopping me from following my passions now, and it was so annoying to think that I had spent the previous 5 decades oblivious to that fact and wasted my time.

  The Myth of being "Spirit Appointed"

  back in the first century we read that the apostles would "lay their hands" on someone and the holy spirit would be imparted to that one.

  appointments of older men were made in this way - at that time.

  in modern times the wts has claimed that their own elders ,min.

  Sadly I know of a few elders who genuinely believe they were appointed by divine provenance and that whatever rubbish comes out of their mouths should be heeded accordingly.

  Worse still is the fact that certain R+F agree with the stupid belief. Either that or they are worried about disagreeing with said elders in case they are then accused of sinning against the holey spirit.

  But what else can you expect from a man-made cult.

  I'm feeling cold

  when i was a jw i would look to the bible or the wt society to answer all of my problems.. now as an older person i get cold in the wintertime and have trouble getting warm down to bad circulation.

  i found an answer in the bible at 1 kings 1:2, but i don't think my pimi wife will let me apply this bible principle.

  When I was a JW I would look to the Bible or the WT Society to answer all of my problems.

  Now as an older person I get cold in the wintertime and have trouble getting warm down to bad circulation.

  I found an answer in the Bible at 1 Kings 1:2, but I don't think my PIMI wife will let me apply this Bible principle. Lol.

  How do you switch off the thoughts of being raised JW and feelings of anger

  raised as a jo blow and married into it.

  37 years in it and now last 7 years out of it which feels great.. have memories of being a kid in school in the uk and just hating everything about being the jw kid.

  bullied, embarrassed in front of others and self-esteem went into the toilet.wished i was born into a different family.. what angers me is the messaging i would receive at home when i talked about being bullied.

  I feel your pain my friend.

  Similar story to you and in school in the UK I felt like a lone person wandering around a pride of lions on a daily basis. Would have loved to have gone on to uni but even back then in the 70s that was a big no-no.

  It is difficult when other siblings are still in, and you are out. Because you try not to get angry with them when you're angry with the WT Society even when your siblings spout their JW mumbo-jumbo to you. Smile, nod, ignore.

  It took me a long time to accumulate new friends who are not JWs. We can talk about everything from politics to mental health to celebrations. It does not totally wipe out the feelings you describe, but most of the time I find that I don't even think about the JW part of my life anymore.

  You will move on and you will be happier for it.

  Worldwide preaching campaign targeting government officials.

  does anybody know what this message will contain ?

  is it designed to provoke a response that will bring persecution on the religion ?

  or is it just going to be some meaningless weak campaign to get the rank and file all excited about it and achieving nothing.. or is it going to suggest to the government officials that this mob could very well be the next jonestown /wacol incident and we need to act now.

  Do Other Sheep have Eternal Life Now?

  one of the benefits of justification is eternal life for believers.

  i found an interesting passage from the wt, june 15, 1974 which reads:.

  "it is to the spirit anointed christians who will rule in that kingdom that most of the christian-greek scriptures is directed, including the promise of everlasting life.

  I remember a trusted elder in a few public talks would emphasise that the Christian Greek Scriptures were written only for the anointed ones with a heavenly hope, and the Hebrew Scriptures were written only for the Jews.

  So other than containing principles and lessons he inferred that the whole Bible was not written for the earthly class but that was why they needed to align themselves with the F&DS to receive spiritual meat in due season.

  Which I guess is why most of Christendom who read the Bible figure that they will be in heaven, whereas the average JW has been told repeatedly that they will not be going to heaven - so they just hope that there will be a place for them to live on the earth, otherwise they are screwed.
